General Care for Shoes

Leather Our leather shoes are made from regenerative Swiss hides. They are vegetable tanned, and should age gracefully without any added treatments. Because they are made from regenerative leather and vegetable tanned, the leather will have natural blemishes and “perfect imperfections” that are a testimony to the life of the animal and the natural process through which the material is produced.

Cupsoles All of our Lactae Hevea cupsoles are hand-poured in France using 100% natural latex rubber. This process is different from “injection molding” or other processes by which vulcanized rubber soles are produced. There might be small air bubbles on and in the cupsoles, barely visible to the eyes. The undyed natural rubber (AMBER), when first poured, often produces a white cast residue on the outsole. This is called “blooming”, and will fade after a few wears. If you want to speed up the process you can apply a wet rag to the surface to brush it off. All of these features we celebrate as they encourage human hands in the work and promote the slow process of artisanal craftsmanship.

General Care for Clothes

Many of the fabrics we use start out as clean, bleached white—surplus materials sourced from warehouses that store overstock, ready for a second life. When we choose to dye, we are committed to using only natural dyes. For us, it’s about keeping traditional methods alive and investing in colors that offer both beauty and benefit.

Natural dyes, by their very nature, are living and dynamic. They respond to sunlight, the unique chemistry of your skin, and even your laundry soap. Over time, these dyes gently shift in tone and saturation, creating subtle changes that we celebrate. Rather than seeing this as imperfection, we embrace it as a reminder that each piece will be a custom one of one, and a visual record of the wearer.
